ten things | may

Hello hello! Happy June!

Hopefully your summer is off to a great start! Today I am sharing a few of my staples for the month of May. I will most likely be using these all summer long!

FORGOTTEN GOD

I actually was given this book for FREE at a yard sale a few weekends ago! I read the bulk of it on the road during a day trip to Austin. I learned and was reminded of the character of our Holy Spirit. Conviction and truth blessed my soul as I read the words of Francis Chan, and how they are closely intertwined with the words of Jesus.

HE DESIRES TO DO MORE THAN “HELP OUT” A BIT. HE WANTS TO COMPLETELY TRANSFORM US. HE WANTS TO TAKE A TIMID HEART AND SET IT ABLAZE WITH STRENGTH AND COURAGE, SO MUCH SO THAT PEOPLE KNOW SOMETHING SUPERNATURAL HAS TAKEN PLACE; LIFE CHANGE JUST AS MIRACULOUS AS FIRE COMING DOWN FROM HEAVEN.

GIVING KEYS

I have loved Giving Keys for years. They are “trendier” now but are still a perfect, distinct accessory. Mine is a chunky bronze key inscribed with the word love. This key is a reminder to my heart to live in the love of Jesus and love others with an overflow of that. Each key supports job creation for those transitioning out of homelessness. When I am asked about my key, it is such a joy to tell the story and impact of this world-changing company.

MADEWELL BANDANAS

For me, bandanas quickly moved from something I liked a little to something I am obsessed with and wear often. While I collect bandanas from all over, my Madewell ones are by far my favorite. They are soft, easy to tie, and not bulky. At 12.99 regular price {I usually hunt for sales!} they are pretty affordable and high quality!

MINERAL SUNSCREEN

Recently, I have been learning about the differences between mineral and chemical sunscreen. Chemical sunscreen, no matter the SPF, typically only blocks UVB rays. This is a problem because UVA rays are the main concern! Mixtures of chemicals in the sunscreen can disrupt hormones, cause skin issues and allergy problems. Mineral sunscreen on the other hand, utilizes natural minerals to block all types of UV rays. While it may cause a slight white cast, mineral sunscreen is by far better for your skin and health! My tip for preventing the white cast is to add a pump of your favorite facial oil- I opt for argan. The Pacifica mineral sunscreen I use was formulated with natural ingredients and smells like coconut and vanilla!

CHLOROPHYLL MASK

I love trying out face masks. Especially ones with powerful antioxidants and natural skin soothers. The chlorophyll mask smells like veggies and will make you look like Shrek but it is great for your skin! Chlorophyll has plant-powered wound healing properties, and prevents the spread of bacteria. I notice my skin is brighter afterwards and any breakouts I have are not as painful or red. Sometimes, I’ll mix the chlorophyll with my Aztec healing clay for an extra cleansing boost!

TURMERIC SPOT TREATMENT

Turmeric- the golden, powerhouse of a spice, has many health and skin benefits. Among those, turmeric is loaded with vitamins and nutrients. It is naturally anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, a natural analgesic, and speeds up your skin’s healing process. Although the yellow on your face makes you look crazy for a little bit, I’ve noticed a huge difference in my skin. Breakouts heal quicker, my face is brighter and more even. Whole foods has recently been having sales on skincare and beauty so be on the look out!

GAP DENIM

Years ago I bought jeans from Gap outlet, and did not love them at all. They stretched out easily, were not flattering, and not worth the money. Due to that experience, I haven’t given Gap jeans a second chance. That is, until I happened to see their recent 50% off sale. I was able to find a few really cute, unique pairs of jeans that are flattering and affordable. I wear them all the time! [despite the Texas 100+ degree heat…oops!]

BRUSH PENS

I have loved hand lettering and calligraphy for several years, but only recently discovered my love for brush pens. I love the organic, free look they give my lettering. A few of my favorite pens are, this one, this one and these.

BLUSH NUDE NAILS

Maybe I was inspired by the royal wedding when I chose these nail polishes? Did you know that Queen Elizabeth requires royal women to either have plain, light pink or nude colored nails? While I do love a good colored polish, I’ve been gravitating towards pale blush pink options lately. Essie is my go to brand for these! My favorite are “less is aura,” “lighten the mood,” and “ladylike.”

TWO STRAP SANDALS

I have been wearing these sandals non-stop for the past several weeks. They are so easy to slip on, go with everything and are pretty affordable. Many stores have similar styles, but mine are from Old Navy!
